TRACTOR PARTS, SAFETY, and OPERATION

In this workshop, participants will learn the parts of the tractor and how to operate a tractor safely. We will start by diving deep into the heart of the tractor, the four stroke internal combustion engine. We will learn how the engine connects to the rest of the tractor's systems including the hydraulic system, the transmission, the clutch, and the PTO. We will walk through, step by step, how to operate the tractor with a focus on fluid checks, choosing and using implements, and navigating different terrains. We will consider safety throughout the day as well as have a dedicated safety discussion. If time allows, we will grease the tractor and new operators may drive the tractor.

This workshop is ideal for new operators and for seasoned operators wishing to better understand and maintain the tractor. The workshop is typically 6 hours (9am-4pm) and can include a second day of one-on-one operation time with participants if needed.

SYSTEMS and PARTS of the TRACTOR

In this day-long workshop, participants will learn the anatomy of the tractor and get practical knowledge on tractor maintenance. We will start by demystifying how the four stroke internal combustion engine works. We will discuss how the engine connects to the transmission (gear + hydrostatic), how hydraulic fluid facilitates and powers different parts of the tractor, and the infinite potential of the PTO. By understanding the systems and parts of the tractor, participants will be able to improve their troubleshooting abilities. We will get hands on practice checking fluids, greasing, and possibly doing an engine oil change. At the end of the day we will look at different types of implements, cover how they function, and how to maintain them. Tractor safety will be discussed throughout the day.

SMALL ENGINES MAINTENANCE and REPAIR

In this workshop, we will investigate the inner workings of 2 and 4 stroke gasoline engines. We will learn how they function, their systems and parts, preventative maintenance, and how to diagnose common issues. Participants will receive hands-on mechanical practice using tools to explore provided 4 stroke engines or their own small engine (BYO!). This class is ideal for folks who have operated or own small engines and want to learn how to maintain and repair them. Participants are encouraged to bring their own 2 stroke or 4 stroke small, gasoline engines, but it is not required for participants to have an engaging experience.

The workshop is typically 4-6 hours, but can be longer to give time for participants to work on their own machines.
